A dynamic upper level trough caused a surface low to develop just west of Melbourne (VIC) in the late afternoon of the 18th, which deepened rapidly as it moved across Melbourne during the night. So dynamic was the environment that a line of storms developed at 3am. This storm passed over my house producing 2cm hail and some nice lightning.
